Rev. David and Joyce Erber

Serving the Lord in Africa

Bio

The Rev. David and Joyce Erber serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Africa. They live in Accra, Ghana.

David serves as a theological educator. He teaches at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Accra. He also serves as the field coordinator for the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, online Master of Arts in Theology program. African pastors from Ghana, Kenya, South Sudan and Uganda live at home and meet in classes using Zoom.

Joyce serves as the regional business manager for Africa. She manages the financial and accounting dynamics for LCMS missionaries and mission projects in 25 countries in Africa. In addition to serving the missionaries, Joyce also works closely with the other world area business managers and the office staff at the LCMS International Center.

David and Joyce have served as LCMS missionaries since 1986. Before Ghana, the Erbers lived in Nigeria for 25 years. David has served in various church planting, seminary instruction, advanced theological education and mission administration capacities over the years. David and Joyce have three grown children and a grandson.

Prayers

The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy: “And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:2). Pray for the Erbers as they serve in Africa. Pray that they are given wisdom and strength as David participates in training and equipping the next generation of pastors and leaders for the church in Ghana and other areas, and as Joyce takes care of the many financial and administrative details that enable LCMS missionaries to serve throughout Africa. Let us give thanks to God for David and Joyce as they serve His people in Africa.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose, when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution toward another aspect of ministry that aligns closely the contributor’s goals and values. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent.

Consistent with Synod Board policy and in recognition of a more challenging economic and philanthropic/fundraising environment due to inflationary pressure, not more than 13.5 percent of any charitable contribution will be allocated to administering gifts and communicating with contributors. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
